The Arena Joondalup Aquatic Centre’s newly redeveloped 50‑metre lap pool is now officially open to the public, marking the completion of a major upgrade that delivers a modern, accessible and high‑performance aquatic facility for the local community.
Delivered by Byte Construct for Venues West, the $10.5 million redevelopment involved the complete replacement of the ageing lap pool, which had reached the end of its serviceable life. The new 10‑lane, fully tiled reinforced concrete pool has been designed to meet contemporary standards for durability, accessibility and user experience, including compliant ramp access and improved pool profiling.
The project was delivered within a live aquatic environment, with the adjacent Leisure Pool remaining operational throughout construction. This required careful coordination and staging to minimise disruption while maintaining the highest standards of safety for patrons, staff and construction teams. Despite the complexity of the works, the project was successfully completed ahead of schedule and within budget, while managing latent conditions and scope growth.
In addition to the new pool, the redevelopment included significant upgrades to mechanical, electrical and HVAC systems, concrete concourses, filtration infrastructure and public areas. Enhanced finishes, improved circulation and modernised plant systems ensure the facility is better equipped to serve the community for decades to come.
