Norfolk Chapel

Following a fire in 2024 that caused significant damage, the Norfolk Chapel at Karrakatta Cemetery has officially reopened after extensive restoration works led by Byte Construct.

The project focused on restoring and upgrading both the Chapel and the adjoining Condolence Lounge to ensure a welcoming and functional space for families and visitors.

Our restoration efforts included:

  • Stripping and replacement of the roof structure, roof sheeting, and insulation to the Condolence Lounge
  • New ceilings, carpets, and final finishes in the Condolence Lounge and Chapel
  • Installation of new fire doors, including sliding doors
  • New joinery and cabinetry to the Servery
  • Replacement of fire-damaged mechanical and electrical services

Originally built in 1991 and refurbished by Byte Construct in 2021, Norfolk Chapel is the largest of the three chapels at Karrakatta Cemetery. This restoration is part of Byte Construct’s ongoing commitment to preserving and enhancing key community infrastructure, with minimal disruption to cemetery operations.

The successful completion of the project has restored a vital space for remembrance and reflection, ensuring its continued service to the community for generations to come.
