The recent refurbishment of Western Power’s control room is a prime example of tailored design meeting operational excellence. Initially, the project involved demolishing existing offices and partitions to create an expansive open space. An access floor was installed to house all electrical and communication services, streamlining the workspace’s functionality.
The ceiling space was not only opened but also painted, adding to the room’s aesthetic appeal. Acoustic lining was applied to the underside of the slab, and hanging acoustic discs were installed to create a warm and quiet ambience, essential for 24-hour operations. The project also included a breakout area complete with food preparation facilities, lockers, and gym equipment, offering a holistic environment for staff well-being.
Beyond the fit-out, the project encompassed a significant upgrade to the backbone cabling, backup UPS, and generator systems. This ensures that Western Power enjoys high-level reliability and protection against power failures. In such events, all essential services will automatically switch over and continue running independently, providing an added layer of operational security.
With its state-of-the-art features and robust infrastructure, this refurbished control room sets a new benchmark for reliability and efficiency in Australia’s energy sector.
