The T1 Gen 3 Smart-gates project has recently been completed by Byte Construct for the Department of Home Affairs. Works on the project were completed in the Sterile arrivals area for border control in T1 at Perth Airport. Works were completed whilst the arrival passport processing remained active for people arriving in Australia from Overseas. Working in this area involved complex co-ordination with the Department of Home Affairs, Australian Boarder Force and Perth Airport PTY Ltd.

The scope of works encompassed erection of hoarding, isolation of electricity and fire services within the hoarded area to allow the removal of the existing smart gates. Following the initial works, Byte Construct were contracted to run new electrical and communications cabling for the new gates, install a structural steel gantry, install of new lighting and stainless-steel shrouds to house the lighting and gate sensors on the gantry. Other works included the removal and replacement of existing carpet, painting and adjustment of glazed balustrades as well as install of some modified glass balustrade panels. We also co-ordinated our works around the requirements of the specialist client sub-contractor who installed, tested and commissioned the new Gen 3 Smart Gates.

Practical completion of the works was completed ahead of schedule.
